Australian Open breakthrough

29 Jan 2009

I achieved my best Australian Open results in 2009. What a tournament! I entered on a wildcard after winning the Australian Open play-off and then reached the quarterfinals. Each round, each victory, was an amazing and emotional experience as I was urged on by the Aussie crowd. I have been playing in Melbourne since 1999 but have never done so well. In the first round I defeated Tamira Paszek of Austria, then No.17 seed Anna Chakvetadze, No.11 Caroline Wozniacki, No.29 Alisa Kleybanova and then I lost to No.3 Dinara Safina in three sets. On the way, I lost my footing but I picked myself up and kept going.
